GOLD at State; Qualifies for Nationals!
Grayson County CATE Center SkillsUSA member Hunter S. won Gold in the Virginia SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference held April 17-18, 2015 in Roanoke, Virginia. Hunter competed in the Nail Care Competition. Her nail model was Shelby W. With her Gold medal win, Hunter has qualified to compete at the National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference in June in Louisville, Kentucky. Congratulations--we are proud of you. A special thanks to SkillsUSA Adviser and Cosmetology Instructor Mrs. Robin Sumner for your hard work in helping make this happen!
CATE FFA Places Two Teams at Ag Mechanics Career Development Event!
Both the Junior and Senior Teams from Grayson County CATE Center FFA placed at the Appalachian Area Ag Mechanics Career Development Event held Friday, April 10, 2015. The Senior Team placed third. Senior Team members are Kellam A., Garrett S., and Shane O. Kellam A. had the second highest individual score. The Junior Team placed second. Junior Team members are Gavin P., Jarrett, H., and Calvin R. Congratulations to these students--you represented yourself, FFA, and Grayson County CATE Center/High School well! We are proud of you. CATE SkillsUSA Student Earns Honors in Precision Machining at State Leadership Conference!
Grayson County CATE Center/High School Senior Zack C. competed in the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference this weekend in the Precision Machining event held in Danville, Virginia. Zack earned third place in Virginia in this competition. Zack was accompanied by his Precision Machining Instructor and SkillsUSA Adviser Lewis Dalton. We are very proud of you, Zack!
CATE Center FBLA Shines at State Conference!
The Virginia FBLA State Leadership Conference was held in Reston, VA April 10-12, 2015, and hosted over 1400 of Virginia’s best and brightest youth to showcase their talents as future business leaders.
Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), the largest and oldest student business organization will hold its’ National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL June 29-July 2, 2015. Participants from around the country will attend and compete at this exciting conference to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and vie for the opportunity to win over $150,000 in cash awards. The students will get the opportunity to participate in more than 50 business and business-related competitive events.
The GCHS CATE FBLA Chapter is working towards building community business partnerships, corporate sponsorship donations, and holding fundraising events which will help to provide the funding necessary for these students to compete on the national level. The following FBLA members received high honors at the 2014 VA FBLA State Leadership Conference. Five of these members are eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL this summer:

CATE Center's First EMT Class Completes Practical Skills EMT Exam With 100% Pass Rate!
Grayson County CATE Center's Emergency Medical Technician Class completed the Practical Skills portion of the EMT Exam on Thursday, April 10, 2015, at Bland Elementary School. The group achieved a 100% pass rate! These students are now preparing to take the written portion of the exam and become full EMTs. This is the first year for the EMT Program at Grayson County CATE Center. We are proud of these students and their great accomplishments.

EMT students enjoyed a celebratory pizza party and received congratulations from Superintendent Kevin Chalfant after achieving a 100% pass rate on their skills exam.
HOSA Students Shine at State Conference
Several members of the Grayson County CATE Center Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Chapter competed at the State Leadership Conference held March 13-15, 2015 at Williamsburg, Virginia. We are proud of all students who attended and represented our school in various competitive events. School Board Proclaims February as CTE Month
At the February meeting of the Grayson County School Board, February was designated as Career and Technical Education Month in Grayson County Public Schools. Superintendent Kevin Chalfant and Chairman Hobert Bailey signed and presented the proclamation shown above. In celebration of CTE Month and to show appreciation to the Board for its' support, attendees enjoyed refreshments prepared by the CATE Center Culinary Arts classes.

Students Certify as Microsoft Office Specialists
Students in Mrs. Sharon Reeves' Advanced CIS class recently certified as Microsoft Office Specialists in Microsoft Word. Congratulations to the group for a great job!!
Shop Night for 2014-2015
The Grayson County Career and Technical Education Center will be hosting shop night in the Agricultural Education Department Shop. Shop night will begin on September 11 and occur every Thursday night until Thursday, May 15, 2015, unless Grayson County Public Schools are closed. The shop doors will be open from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Woodworking, welding, and other metalworking tools are available to assist you in building small projects and/or repairing farm machinery. Agriculture instructors will be present to teach participants how to use any of the tools. A small fee will be charged to pay for material and equipment use. Planing is limited to 200 linear ft./person per night. The Agriculture Department is located on back side of the Grayson County High School Campus—turn onto Mill Avenue (across from The Quick Chek/Paul’s Restaurant) and bear left at the bottom of the hill.
